the art of enough

We know a lot about what Jesus did on Earth, but we don't know it all.

Did you know more than 130,000,000 books exist in the world today? That’s a lot of books!

If you’re a Jesus follower, you’re familiar with four books in particular written about the life and ministry of a carpenter from Galilee named Jesus. And if you’ve read these gospels before, you’ll know one thing.

Jesus did some spectacular things during his life on Earth.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John all give accounts of Jesus healing the sick, restoring sight to the blind, making the lame walk, feeding thousands with one boy’s lunch, turning water into wine, and even raising people from the dead. Incredible!

But while it’s easy for us to look at the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John as the whole story, we know they aren’t. In concluding his gospel, John tells us something astonishing.

“Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.” John 21:25 NIV

John is saying that the things we read and love about Jesus in the gospels are only a fraction of all the things he did during his time on Earth. They’re only a highlight reel of his ministry! In just three years, Jesus did more than any of us could ever imagine or will ever understand.

Think about all the miracles Jesus performed we don’t know about. Consider all the stories Jesus told we never heard about. Imagine all the encounters Jesus had with people that were never written down.

We might not have it all, but we have enough.

Like the popular worship song says, “you’re bigger than I thought you were.

Yes, Jesus certainly is.

But the best part about it all is this--Jesus’s ministry didn’t end when he left Earth. His work continued after his resurrection, and Jesus’ spirit has been at work from that day to today.

So yeah, 130,000,000 is a lot of books.

But all of them combined could never contain the innumerable miracles performed, lessons taught, and encounters had with the Holy Spirit since the day John penned those beautiful words.

God is still writing his story, and you get to contribute a verse.

abundantly,

hamilton
